Climate Action Committee endorses state bills, reissues school solar RFP
WELLESLEY — May 1, 2026 — Wellesley Climate Action Committee backs state climate bills, reissues school solar RFP. Chair Lise Olney led the May 1 meeting in endorsing opposition to a proposed $1 billion cut to MassSave, support for expanding the Fossil Fuel Free Demonstration Program from 10 to 20 municipalities, and backing for thermal energy network provisions, with member Kenneth Largess set to carry the package to the Select Board. Sustainability Director Marybeth Martello said the Hardy and Hunnewell school solar RFP would be reissued with a May 26 due date, with Lawyers for Good Government assisting on tax advisory services. Martello reported the April 15 geothermal forum at Wellesley Village Church drew about 130 participants, including 16 geothermal professionals and 28 houses of worship. On the "Make Polluters Pay" bill brought by Wellesley College ENACT students, the committee declined to take a position; Olney said she hoped it would be "the beginning of a beautiful relationship."
