Wellesley CPC eyes first-ever borrowing to fund Morses Pond project

WELLESLEY — February 11, 2026 — Wellesley CPC signals it may borrow for $6 million Morses Pond share. The Community Preservation Committee on Feb. 11 opened discussion of financing the town's CPA portion of the Morses Pond Beach and Bathhouse project, warning that appropriable funds will likely be exhausted by June 30. Chair Stephen Murphy and Vice Chair Allan Port said any bonding would be repaid from the roughly $1.7 million annual CPA surcharge, not the regular tax levy, meaning "there wouldn't be any override implications," Port said, pending sign-off from town counsel. Jay McHale, attending his last meeting as the Natural Resources Commission representative, reported the Duck Pond and Reeds Pond dredging project is out to bid, with bids due to DPW on March 12. The committee rescheduled its March meeting from March 11 to March 18 and presents to Advisory on Feb. 18.
