WMLP calls peak-hour alert as heat wave hits Wellesley Thursday and Friday
WELLESLEY — The Wellesley Municipal Light Plant issued a peak alert for Thursday and Friday, asking customers to dial back electricity use during early-evening hours as temperatures climb into the 90s. The town also published its June edition of The W newsletter, and the Wellesley Free Library's Hills Branch began its previously announced renovation closure this week.
TOWN HALL
WMLP is asking residential and business customers to minimize electric use during peak hours on June 4 and June 5, citing forecasts for very high temperatures. The utility says cutting demand during the early-evening peak helps lower energy costs for the system and reduce greenhouse gas emissions tied to regional generation. Details are posted on the town's civic alerts page.
The town also released the June 2026 issue of The W, its monthly digital newsletter, summarizing project updates, departmental announcements and community events for the month ahead. Residents can read it through the town's News Flash archive at wellesleyma.gov.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Wellesley Free Library's Hills Branch closed June 1 for a renovation project and is scheduled to reopen in fall 2026, the library says on its homepage. Main Library and Fells Branch services continue on their regular schedules; cardholders can still access the full digital collection — eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, Hoopla, Kanopy, Libby and PressReader — at wellesleyfreelibrary.org.
